Ghandi

I'm reading Ghandi's biography, and I'll admit I didn't realize he was so strict on life. Ghandi felt the human should be able to life life keeping the following (and more) princples:

1. People should never lie. Ever. Not even to save your life, one should always tell the truth.

2. People should never have fear. That's kind of hard.

3.People should not get married, but if they do, they should only have sex if they want to have children.

4. People should not eat food just because it tastes good. A person should eat just to survive. Aw com one, who doesn't want a nice slice of chocolate cake?????

These are just some of the principles that Ghandi believed in and practiced. While I respect his beliefs, I think they are difficult to follow. I do agree with Ghandi that a strong individual does not mean he/she has to be very physically strong. They have to be mentally strong.

Video footage of UCLA protest against Student Tasering from Iranian Prospect

The link below is to the Website "Iranian Prospect" that has video footage of the UCLA demonstration against the police tasering/brutality incident that occurred recently. I couldn't agree with the speaker more. If those police officers couldn't handle a simple situation as of having an admittedly grumbling, but peaceful student leave a library, how would they handle a real incident? The police officers were incompetent and should be fired, without even so much as a severence pay.

UCLA Police use Police Brutality Towards an Iranian-American student

I am more than outraged at the UCLA police brutality incident that happened this week in USA. The student was not a threat for the police to be tazing him muliple times. Are citizens in the United States supposed to be feel safe when a police officer can just come and taze you on a whim? I hope the policemen involoved get heavy punishments.

University students with stars protest

According to Gooya news, many University students whose records have been marked with stars have not been permitted to register for this term. Due to their participation in political rallies, they have been marked with 1,2 or 3? stars.
They gathered together in front of Science Ministry. One of the students was quoted as saying:"the government is not able to fulfill their own promises, and as a result they try to stifle criticism. This barring of students from registration is their way of creating fear of objection." Another student said:" Just like the children of the authorities have the right to go to University, we want the right to attend University as well."

Shirin Ebadi Listed as Time Magazine's "60 Years of Heros"

Shirin Ebadi
The Iranian lawyer has faced death threats and persecution, but her campaign against injustice continues

By CHERIE BOOTH

Once you reach later life, it's harder to believe in heroes. But Shirin Ebadi is exactly that to me. Her personal courage, commitment to the rule of law and determination to defend the weak against injustice are qualities that mark out an extraordinary lawyer. But then there are her achievements.

The first female judge in Iran's history. The first Iranian and the first Muslim woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. A forceful campaigner for human rights. An example

Reporters without Borders is starting an online demonstration where on November 7, 2006 at 11 am (16 of Aban, I'm not sure 11 am of where, perhaps Universal time?)unitl 11:00 am the next day of Novemer 8, 2006 (17 of Aban) people can demonstrate their opposition to internet censorship. How to participate? You click on www.rsf.org and then click on the 13 countries that you beleive are the top perpretrators of internet censorship.

Also, there is a a website where you can join/make a blog where each week the blog with a top priority news item will be posted for all to improve their knowledge of events around the world. www.rsfblog.org The only hitch seems to be that you pay a small monthly fee.

Check out the advertisements that they have for the campaign. They are pretty funny! I'd post them if I could, but they aren't pictures. funny animated ads
